Frequently Asked Questions
How much does tax preparation cost?
Individual returns typically start around the cost of a nice dinner out and rise with complexity; business returns are quoted based on entity type and the state of the books. Exact pricing comes after the client application; no meter running, no surprise invoice.
Do you do tax planning, or just file returns?
Both, and planning is the part that saves money. A return records what already happened; planning in the fall; projections, withholding fixes, equipment timing, entity questions; changes what the return says before it's filed.
Can you handle farm taxes?
Yes; farm returns are the core of this practice. Schedule F, equipment depreciation elections, crop insurance and disaster payments, government program payments, and timber sales.
I live in North Carolina but work in Virginia. Do you handle that?
Yes, routinely. Border-county clients file a Virginia nonresident return and a North Carolina resident return with a credit between them; we prepare both and set your withholding so April isn't a surprise.
What do I need to get started?
Last year's return, your income documents, and about 15 minutes for the client application. We'll tell you exactly what else we need after reviewing your situation; everything uploads through the secure portal.
Important Notes About Fees
Fee Schedule:
Our fee schedule is designed to cover the needs of most taxpayers with standard or moderately complex tax situations. However, additional fees may apply if unusually complex circumstances arise, such as extensive tax research, multi-state filings, foreign asset reporting, or other intricate tax matters.
Accounting Work:
If excessive accounting work, such as extensive bookkeeping, transaction cleanup, or reconstruction of financial records, is required to complete your tax return, additional fees may apply. In such cases, I will communicate any anticipated charges before proceeding.
